#ThrowbackThursday: Retro Selfies

January 9, 2014 3 Comments

tbt selfies

My husband’s the photographer in the family, but none of his fancy pictures ever beat his selfies. I use the term broadly here because it’s not like he’s taken pictures of himself, he’s just always liked to take group pictures in the same fashion you take a selfie, and somehow he always gets them right. He’s seriously been taking them ever since he had a flip phone with a camera. Remember those??

This picture is from 2005. That’s the year we lived in Playa del Carmen, in the Mexican Riviera Maya. Where the actual picture he took is, I have no clue. But I’m glad my friend Susan, who was visiting from Miami, was able to capture him in action because that was so his thing since back then.

Now that I think of it, I’m gonna dig into our bottomless pit of digital pictures and do a gallery of our best family “selfies.” They’re kinda cool.

A quick marinade of lemon juice, seaweed and fresh vegetables sets up a flavorful, no-fuss ceviche that tastes like the sea despite having no seafood in it. Store-bought minced or “riced” cauliflower won’t work for this dish. You have to start by grating or mincing a fresh whole head of cauliflower — that ext...
